Marc Antony

Marc Antony placed the image of the sun in a temple on his coins. His alliance with Cleopatra in Egypt may have been influenced by his perception of the signs in the heavens as well. We know Augustus placed the images of comets on his coins as well. With the abundance of eclipses in the eastern mediteranean at the time, it is hard to believe this had no effect with perceptions at the battle of Actium. Again it is hard to believe the Roman Republic would not have been imperial considering the image on this coin if Marc Antony and Cleopatra had won. Photo from Tom Cederlind
