Eclipse of 212 AD, During the reign of emperor Caracalla
Caracalla and his family were of Syrian descent and would be well aware of the symbolism of eclipses over their region. This eclipse was present when Caracalla was sole emperor and may have influenced his military planning against the Parthians. On his last coin the eclipse symbol is made into an altar piece. This eclipse would have been visible in both Markianopolis and Carrhae.
